Trafalgar Square Gets Ready For The Expedition Send-Off

Prince Harry with Team Glenfiddich UK, Dominic West with Team Soldier On Commonwealth and Team Noom Coach USA will gather in Trafalgar Square on Thursday 14 November for the Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge departure event and press conference.

All three teams selected Multimat sleep systems; Summit XL original foam base mats, Summit 25/38 self-inflating mats and our highly durable Tent Underlay for the expedition, and this preparatory Icelandic training.

During the event, Team Glenfiddich member Prince Harry will unveil the Endeavour Trophy and receive the South Pole Flag which will be taken to the pole with the teams.

The launch event will be hosted by radio and television presenter Jenni Falconer and broadcast live on YouTube thanks to the support of Arqiva, expedition partner and world leader in communications infrastructure and media services. The live feed will be viewed worldwide, linking in our partnering organisations - Soldier On in Australia, Soldiers to Summits in the US and Soldier On in Canada.

The Virgin Money Hub will host the live broadcast from 11:30am to 12:45pm GMT on Thursday 14 November 2013.

Questions can be submitted via twitter by using the hashtag #SouthPole2013.

The teams will arrive in Novo Airbase and following a brief acclimatisation period, they will land at the start line at 87°S with 2500kgs of expedition kit and equipment. It is from here that the expedition begins, on or around 1 December 2013.

Walking With The Wounded recently caught up with some of the Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge team members to see how they are feeling with less than two weeks to go, please click here to read more.

We are pleased and proud to support this event, and wish all of the teams well for the challenge - although of course we are hopeful of a Team UK victory!
