Arctic Kites, Greenland Icecap Crossing

1st June 2008 by Multimat
Tent Underlay Orange in action DSC_4959 With the support of the Queen and Diabetes UK, the Arctic Kites Team crossed the Greenland Icecap by non-mechanical means in April and May 2008.  This 640km journey from Nagtivit on the East coast to Ilulissat on the West Coast was undertaken on skis, whilst hauling pulks weighing around 100kg.  Whenever the conditions were appropriate kites were used to pull the team and their pulks across the ice.

The team took only 22 days (the expedition was expected to take up to five weeks!!) Surviving crevasses, polar bears, arctic storms and temperatures down to -40oC.

We were pleased to provide Multimat tent underlay for the team's protection and comfort as they undertook this huge  challenge. You can discover more about the expedition and it's fundraising aims for Diabetes UK at www.arctickites.com
